Pasolini and the Form of the City

Jose Rivera is a lifelong resident of Spanish Harlem (El Barrio) but is afraid that gentrification will force him out. James Barrow worries that a construction project in an empty lot behind his building will threaten his apartment. Discusses the squatters movement, made up of people who live in abandoned houses through necessity and in order to force change in housing policy. Focuses on Philadelphia, where Gloria Giles becomes a leader and gains a national reputation.

Destroyed in a dramatic and highly-publicized implosion, the Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex has become a widespread symbol of failure amongst architects, politicians and policy makers. The Pruitt-Igoe Myth explores the social, economic and legislative issues that led to the decline of conventional public housing in America, and the city centers in which they resided, while tracing the personal and poignant narratives of several of the project's residents. In the post-War years, the American city changed in ways that made it unrecognizable from a generation earlier, privileging some and leaving others in its wake. The next time the city changes, remember Pruitt-Igoe.

When Brovary village officially became a town, one third of its residents were communist. After 60 years and three revolutions such proportion didn’t change: thirty percent of its streets keep the names of the former empire.

“Shellmound” is the story of how one location was transformed from a sacred center of pre-historic cultures to a commercial mecca for modern people. What began as a Native American burial ground three thousand years ago, was transformed first into an amusement park, and later an industrial age paint factory. Now, the tainted ancient soil sits beneath the glittering lights of Banana Republic, Victoria’s Secret, and the AMC movie theaters. “Shellmound” examines the decisions made during the recent toxic cleanup, excavation, and construction of the Bay Street mall through the eyes of the city of Emeryville, the developer, the archaeologists, and the native Californians who worked on the site.

An investigation of Edward Brezinski, an ambitious, charismatic Lower East Side painter hell-bent on sucess, who thwarted his own career with antics that roiled NYC’s art elite. Brezinski’s quest for fame gives an intimate portrait of the art world’s attitude towards success and failure, fame and fortune, notoriety and erasure.

A sophisticated and beautifully constructed account of landscape change in and around Paris in the early 1960s. The film raises complex issues about the meaning and experience of modern landscapes and the enigmatic characteristics of features such as canals, pylons and deserted factories. Rohmer also explores the role of landscape within different traditions of modern art and design and refers to specific architects, artists and engineers.

A film about Pavel Kushnir — a musician who refused to compromise, in art or in conscience. A “great little man,” as his friends describe him, Pavel played sublime music for two elderly women in an empty community hall with the same devotion he would have brought to Carnegie Hall. He wrote extraordinary novels and dared to protest, fully aware of the consequences. In 2024, Pavel Kushnir died in a prison in Birobidzhan.

Until recently, 21-year-old Timofey Anufriev — the son of renowned artist Sergey Anufriev — was an ordinary student in St. Petersburg. For more than a year now, he has been fighting for Ukraine as part of the RDK. The "The Insider" film crew met with him in Kyiv. In the film by "The Insider", Timofey speaks about why he made this choice, about war, and about death.

His name is Fyodor. This name is well known to many LGBTQ refugees. He helped, supported, and guided people. Many trusted him. And then everything collapsed. Dozens of victims, accusations of fraud and lies, episodes from the past under the surnames Ugolkov and Fain. This film is the story of my friend Valya, who, at a difficult moment in her life, trusted Fyodor and lost time, money, and a part of herself.

Relatives of soldiers killed in Russia’s war against Ukraine are entitled to compensation — insurance payments, regional grants, and so-called “presidential” benefits. Altogether, the sum amounts to around 14 million rubles, divided among the closest family members. This film tells the stories of three women — Oksana Nazarenko from Karachay-Cherkessia, Natalia Makarova from St. Petersburg, and Anastasia Yudina from the Leningrad region. They are taking the fathers of their sons to court over the payouts, arguing that these men did not raise the children and were absent from their lives after divorce. For us, this is not a film about money, but about the psychology of many Russian families — where the figure of an absent father was replaced by cadet “brotherhood,” and poverty was compensated by the dream of a military career for a child.

An invitation to experience the thrill of spinning, jumping, skimming, and dancing on winged feet. The film shows how Canada's champions do it. The documentary film explores a top-secret Russian government experiment involving the recruitment and deployment of prisoners to the war in Ukraine. The film reveals previously unknown details of one of the most ruthless and cynical military projects of the 21st century, based on the analysis of several hundred Ministry of Defense documents, as well as testimonies from the soldiers themselves, their relatives, and publicly available data.
