A man (played by the filmmaker Nacer Khemir) returns home to Tunis to bury his mother. After the burial, his father gives him an "amana" to be handed to a certain Sheikh named Muhyiddin. Taken by his father's request, the man immediately sets out on an epic journey to find the long lost Sheikh and deliver the "amana."

The charm and nobility of the young woman end up softening the emir. He bows, returns her to her husband, and forgives the beauty.

A lord’s servant, Ali Baba, is sent to retrieve a slave for his master, but ends up on an adventure filled with gold, mischief, love, and forty famous thieves instead.

Ali Baba's powerful uncle hates how his nephew visits many beds of the caliphate and fetches a professor to set Ali Baba on the straight-and-narrow, but Ali humiliates the professor. Thinking Ali Baba is gay, Qadi's wife sets up a wedding, enlisting the help of a sorceress's magic potion to make Ali Baba fall for the selected woman, but the bride-to-be falls for Ali Baba instead.

Every night, in danger of being beheaded, Scheherazade tells King Shahryar unfinished tales to continue them the following night, hence defying his promise of murdering his new wives after their wedding night. Scheherazade tells King Shahryar her stories but these are not those in the book. As in the book, these stories are tragic and comical, with rich and poor, powerless and powerful people, filled with surprising and extraordinary events.
