Long before his big stage breakthrough in 1973 in Hamburg, and 4.4 million records sold, the rock musician Udo Lindenberg from the Westphalian province, the man with the long hair and the hat, had many adventures. Before it all started, he moved from the remoteness of Gronau to Hamburg, where he met Paula, who was not his great love, but was quite a hottie. When the team of three was complete with Steffi Stephan, the idea of founding a band developed. But the road to get there was a long one: he drummed as a jazz drummer in bands, had a highly dangerous performance in a US military base in the middle of the Libyan desert and always believed in making it to the very top.

Now he was finally allowed to take it: "Westernhagen: MTV Unplugged" is the name of the new concert film and the live album. And the singer took his audience on a musical journey through his previous work, which has lasted around 40 years. Udo Lindenberg has never been more popular than today. But many younger people can't do anything with him because he has been submerged for years. The ARD shows a documentary that is worth seeing, which explains why Udo Lindenberg has become a kind of secret president of Germany. The documentary shows all stages from the earliest beginnings through his breakthrough to his crash and comeback. Lindenberg made his first money at the age of 16 as a drummer in a band of the US Army in Tripoli. Lindenberg made 800 DM a day and thus earned a multiple of his father's as a teenager. From then on it was clear that Lindenberg wanted to put everything on one card and remain a musician.

The now 66-year-old Udo Lindenberg has never been as good as he is today, and this year's tour should not only be the highlight of his career, but also the high point of German rock and its stage presentation. The DVD was created as a recording of a concert in the carnival stronghold of Cologne on the beautiful Rhine.

On March 25, 2015, Udo Lindenberg's special train to Pankow became a reality. BVG and rbb Radiowelle 88.8 invited the artist to take a ride on U-Bahn line 2. The journey started at the Olympiastadion subway station and ended in Pankow. His song "Sonderzug nach Pankow" (Special train to Pankow) had caused a stir in both the West and the East in 1983. The song was a cheeky request to the comrades to let him perform in the GDR - in vain. When he was allowed to sing for the first and only few times in the GDR in October 1983, his "Sonderzug nach Pankow" was not allowed. In March 2015, Udo Lindenberg traveled to Pankow on a special train on U-Bahn line 2, accompanied by rbb reporters.
