A series of unfortunate events cause a recent migrant into Bombay to turn to a life of crime.

When he proposes marriage, she accepts, and soon both are married. This leaves Bharat devastated, unable to deal with life, and unable to afford the basic needs of Roti (food), Kapada (clothing), and Makaan (shelter), he must now decide to carry on honestly, or otherwise

He leaves Laxmi with her maternal grand-parent, Bhagwanti and her husband, but Laxmi is abused and she runs away to Bombay, where she is befriended and looked after by a blind beggar, Anwar.

Sunil is convicted of murder and is on the run. But the long arm of the law and his past finally catch up with him. Can he outrun his destiny for long?

Randhir and Ranvir Verma are twins. Randhir is straightforward, while Ranvir is a petty criminal. These petty thefts add up, and soon the police arrest Ranvir, and he is sentenced to prison. In prison, Ranvir incurs the wrath of a gangster, Tony, and is killed. Randhir undertakes to find the killer, and gets himself arrested, and imprisoned to get to see who the killer is. After getting out from prison, Randhir plans to avenge his brother's death, without knowing that he himself could endanger his very life, as well the life of his girlfriend, Mala. The song "Chandni chand se hoti hai, sitaron se nahin, pyar bhi ek se hota hai hazaron se nahin..." is still popular.

Bharat is a patriotic Indian who's father was an Independence fighter. He goes to London and is disappointed to see that the NRI's staying there criticized everything Indian and were wasting their life away. Prithi (Siara Banu) is one such NRI who falls in love with Bharat but refuses to go back to India with him.

Dinu goes to the Zamindar's house where he meets a young man who identifies himself as the real son, Suraj, and informs him that Sohan has been asked to leave. A devastated Dinu loses his memory and roams listlessly on the streets of Calcutta, unable to remember anything.
