A disowned son of a Greek aristocrat arrives in Hungary in 1949 over his family’s communist beliefs and starts work in the Lágymányos tobacco factory, where he falls for Gizi Weiss and fathers their first child in 1953. Fifty years later, the now-destitute “Ratkó baby” is whisked from the Baross Square underpass to Crete by a legion of lawyers to claim his share of a legendary inheritance.
In the year 80 AMM (After Mickey Mouse) on the anthropomorphic animal-controlled Planet X, a party of mafioso cats plot to enact a genocide against the mouse population of the world. Five-Fingered Dude is no longer on the force, running a yacht club, when a prostitute is found dead. The case is taken over by Doctor Kardos, eager but clumsy. Meanwhile, a kidnapping case becomes entangled. Doctor Kardos is in charge of the "fight" from the front line, using all "modern" means. The investigation would not succeed without the intervention of Tiny and her little team.
The story is based around an American Idol kind of TV talent show and the eventual winner of the contest: a young orphan woman, who works at an orphanage herself. As I learned from the werkfilm on the DVD, the story was specifically written for Oláh, who in real life was the runner-up of the very first such TV show in Hungary “Megasztár” (“MegaStar”) in 2004. She didn’t win there despite being many viewers’ favorite and having a terrific voice. It is kind of a consolation that she won in the movie, although reading the legal troubles about getting her fee must have made the victory sour.
The turnings of this satirical story are accentuated by the comments of the Director and the Author. Éva is in love with Zoli. She expects to live a wild and modern life by his side, not the boredom of a petite-bourgeois household. On a drunken morning, Zoli writes a poem. The poem is published in a morning paper and divides readers. Because of the poem the young man is dismissed it from his work, and his landlord kicks him out from the apartment.

He has not seen his aunt for a long time, and she receives him very friendly, but she flatly refuses to lend him any money.

The two become engulfed in passion that they ignore their own spouses and professions, causing Novak to be formally reprimanded. Gedeon is a young, ambitious detective. Three women have disappeared and he strongly believes that there’s direct connection between them. All three of them were driving lonely and have disappeared in the same region. After a lenghty discussion Gedeon gets the permission from his boss for going on patrol with his colleague in that area.
Grün Lili's parents have been collecting the dowry for years and now, with the help of a matchmaker, they have found her a fiancé, László Bölcskei. But Lili prefers the lump Szabo. Eventually it turns out that Lili's brother, Oscar, has been embezzling the dowry.

"Ripacsok" is a great movie with great soundtrack, acting, cinematography, direction, etc. The world of "artists", hamming actors, good clowns and bad clowns... A unique movie in many ways. Pál Sándor is a very good hungarian director, watch his movies (especially the slightly better "Régi idõk focija") if you have the chance.
