Birth of The Endless Summer: Discovery of Cape St. Francis

The documentary "Birth of The Endless Summer: Discovery of Cape St. Francis" reveals the untold story behind Bruce Brown's iconic film "The Endless Summer." It follows the journey of Dick Metz, a California surf pioneer, as he travels the world from 1958 to 1961. Metz's adventures lead him to discover the "perfect wave" at Cape St. Francis in South Africa, which inspires Bruce Brown to create "The Endless Summer" and revolutionize the sport of surfing. The film also documents Metz's return to South Africa at the age of 90 to retrace his original journey. It features interviews with influential figures in the surfing world, including Metz, Bruce Brown, and other surfers. The premiere of the film at the Newport Beach Film Festival is particularly special for director Richard Yelland, as it tells a personal story rooted in his hometown.

The Kill

Just as Ratboy launched the very first backside 360 air, The Kill helped launch the careers of Ratboy and Flea. The Kill came onto the surfing screen stealing the limelight from southern California and shining it directly on the northern part of the state, particularly Santa Cruz. Prior to the internet, the only way to see new surfing maneuvers was by watching the latest surf videos. The Kill includes Ratboys famous breakout performance, which took him from an unknown seventeen-year-old to the cover of Surfer Magazine. The Johnny Boy Gomes interview would become the material of surfing lore. Pomers interview with the most intimidating surfer in the world disarmed him in a way no one had seen before. Johnny Boy casually sucks on a lollipop as he describes his workout routine. Play tennis, kickboxing and eating junks, says Johnny Boy Gomes.

A Bowlful of Chile

From the producers of A Fistful of Barrels comes a new video featuring an entirely new wave. The small town of Arica, Chile hosts the ASP World Tour's Top 44 at Ex Isla Alacrans during the Rip Curl Pro Search Chile. Following hot on the heels of last year's epic sessions at the Mexican pointbreak known only as La Jolla, The Search extends its one-of-a-kind Floating License to South America, where the world's best face-off with one of the most challenging waves to ever host a World Tour event. What started out as a question mark became one of the greatest slab duels ever held, complete with heat-ending injuries and the spectacle of the world's best dry-docked on the shallow Chilean reef, leaving some holding their bandaged heads and others simply shaking theirs at a wave compared to both Pipeline and Teahupo'o for it's ferocity.

BLACKWATER: The Story of a Place Called Teahupo'o

The wave is undoubtedly one of surfing's most challenging and awe-inspiring waves. As Chris Malloy comments, "that wave has changed surfing forever." The movie features fantastic surfing and commentary from a who's who of surfing, people such as Vetea David, Manoa Drollet, Shane Dorian, Kelly Slater, Tom Carroll, Mark Occhilupo, Bruce and Andy Irons, Layne Beachley, and the Hobgood brothers, to name a few. For the first time, you can see and hear it all - the myths, the facts, the history, the stories, the consequences, and most of all, the unforgettable waves. "Blackwater" contains loads of never-before-seen footage from over 25 of the world's best cameramen, exclusive interviews with over 50 great surfers, and just one big star - a surf location that's nothing short of unbelievable.

Shelter
5.8

In 2001 Woodshed Films released their third Moonshine Experiment surf movie entitled “Shelter.” With a similar style and feel to the first two Moonshine Experiments, “Thicker Than Water” and “September Sessions”, “Shelter” is one of Taylor Steele and Chris Malloy’s best productions. This surf movie does a great job of staying far away from the politics of surfing and focuses more on soul surfing. However, don’t think that there aren’t any surfers worth watching in this movie because there are plenty. “Shelter” is jam packed with professional and well-known surfers such as Rob Machado, Taylor Knox, Joel Tudor, Mick Fanning, Dean Morrison, Jack Johnson, The Malloy’s, Kelly Slater, Nat Young, Donavon Frankenreiter, Shane Dorian, Jon Swift and many more. The soundtrack for “Shelter” is similar to “Thicker Than Water” and “September Sessions”. It has a slower and mellower feel, featuring artists such as Mason Jennings, The Shins, White Buffalo and even surfers Jon Swift and Rob Machado.

For a Few Barrels More

The producers of A Fistful of Barrels and A Bowlful of Chile serve up another slice of 'Somewhere', and this time it's all Bagus! The ASP World Tour descends on Bali in search of Indonesian barrels, babes and Bintangs. In what was possibly the least mysterious event location in the short history of The Search campaign, Rip Curl opted to pay the boys of the Top 44 back for last year's Chilean hell-trip and hold this year's Somewhere event in the well-tracked, and in this case, well-oiled waters off of Bali. Far be it from us to be the spoilers, though. If you can't figure out where these perfectly groomed left-hand barrels are, do the legwork yourself and you'll reap the rewards. Relax and enjoy watching Kelly Slater completely dominate the rest of the Top 44, before bowing out and letting the young Turks have their day. The all-Hawaiian final featured Bruce Irons besting Freddy P to retire comfortably from the Tour in the knowledge that he's got what it takes to take home a win.

From Australia to California, from Florida to France, the world's greatest surfers share their insights, and show us how - and why -- it's done. Their skill, and the thrill of the experience, are captured as never before in this documentary. What is the secret to surfing's global appeal? The answer is revealed by Florida's Kelly Slater, California's Rob Machado, Hawaii's Kalani Robb and Australia's Joel Parkinson, through their own voices, in DOWN THE BARREL. The Kill 3

The Kill 3 is almost two hours long, making it the longest Kill movie. Pomer includes not only mass footage, but also behind-the-scenes fun and games. Ratboy goofs around hunting lizards. Tyler Smith catches a fish and releases it after getting it stoned. In addition, there are fun trips to Mexico and Hawaii. Pomer had just cemented a relationship with the legendary surfer Tom Curren and it shows in the 100% exclusive footage of Curren surfing at his own secret point break. Pomer captured the reclusive Curren in his element by riding bikes with him to this lost point and surfing with him before breaking out the camera. It offers a glimpse of Curren that can be found nowhere else: Curren surfing all by himself in his own nirvana. This is special footage of a time that is long gone. And dont forget about the Ratboy Shove-It. The first ever recorded.

Aqua Luna

The oldest mummies in the world are from Chile. So are some of the sickest waves. In this follow-up to Absolute Mexico, director Josh Pomer trains his eye on surfing the Chilean coast. Along for the ride are some of the best surfers in the world. The crew scores a perfect reef that breaks in both directions. Joel Parkinson steals the show with his standup no grab backside tubes. Taylor Knox puts on a display of raw power through his use of rail turns. Cory Lopez shines in the ease of backdooring the wave. Aqua Luna has an all-star cast of interviews that brings us the unique perspective of the surfers featured. Chasing Dora

Chasing Dora is the story of three California surfers who decided to bring to life an epic challenge thrown down by one of surfing's greatest stylists, the renowned maverick, Miki Dora, who died in 2002 at age 67. Dora was one of the sport's iconic figures. He railed against the commercialization of surfing, yet endorsed one of the best-selling surfboard models of the mid-'60s surf boom; he decried competitive surfing, yet still chose to enter some, and floated schemes to promote others; he shunned publicity, yet managed to use the surf media to create an almost mythic persona for himself. Chasing Dora takes on one of his radical ideas--that the ultimate test of a truly great surfer would be in a contest for the longest wave ridden, on a self-made wooden board, with no equipment or accessories that stemmed from the industrial age--no plastics, no neoprene suits, no surf leashes.
