How can people play together as one? How can one contribute to something greater than oneself? How can a group cohabitate for decades without falling apart? And what role does the conductor really play? For the first time, cameras and microphones slip among the 80 musicians of the Orchestre de Paris, under the baton of their young prodigy conductor, Klaus Mäkelä. A total immersion to share their experiences, emotion and beauty, at the heart of music in the making.
Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 Herbert Blomstedt (Actor), Gewandhausorchester (Actor), Ute Feudel (Director)
The Triple Concerto is one of Beethoven's less frequently performed works - probably also because it requires three soloists and makes considerable demands on them. ARTE presents the Concerto for Violin, Violoncello, Piano and Orchestra in C major at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, performed by an excellent trio of soloists. It is accompanied by the Gewandhaus Orchestra under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt.
Ruth Ziesak, soprano ; Anna Larsson, contralto ; Christoph Genz, tenor ; Dietrich Henschel, bass ; GewandhausKammerchor ; Gewandhausorchester Leipzig ; Herbert Blomstedt, conductor. Recorded in performance May 8, 2005, St. Thomas Church, Leipzig, during the 2005 Bachfest Leipzig. Special features include: Bach and his B minor Mass, an introduction by Herbert Blomstedt (21 min.)
