Dr. Kobermann - on painkillers - has mistaken the bathroom door for the corridor door and locked herself out. Her husband is sitting in front of the TV with headphones on and doesn't hear her ringing, so she seeks refuge in her nightgown with a neighbor, a flautist. Mecklenburg, 19th century. For generations, the Brand family of farmers has worked a piece of land as tenants of the baron, who owns almost all of the village's land. The baron himself comes from a family of farmers who became rich through corruption and were ennobled. He is the absolute potentate, no one dares to contradict him, he takes what he wants and stops at nothing in his excesses. At the same time, he is the center of petty bourgeois, bigoted social life. Johann, the stable boy, wants to marry Mariken Brand and asks the baron for a piece of land so that he can build a life of his own. But the lord is harsh, not only refusing him the land, but also increasing the rent. Johann rebels, trying to rouse the farmers in the village from their lethargy—in vain. Only when Mariken dies does the mood change. A peasant uprising breaks out, and Johann kills the baron.

In 1523, young Thomas MĂŒntzer arrives with his wife Ottilie in the Thuringian village Allstedt to assume the rectorate. As a follower of Lutherâ€Čs teachings, he finds in the Bible not only reasons for clerical, but also for secular reforms. But when Luther turns away from the rural population after a discord with MĂŒntzer, it is MĂŒntzer who becomes the peoplesâ€Č spokesman. He is forced to go to Southern Germany, where he convenes with revolting farmers. But his way leads him back to Thuringia. In 1525, he and Heinrich Pfeiffer form the centre of the Thuringian peasant uprising in MĂŒhlhausen, but their success is diminished by the fact that peasants and craftsmen donâ€Čt seem to be able to work together. In Frankenhausen, MĂŒntzer becomes the leader of a peasantsâ€Č army that is set to fighting the rulerâ€Čs army – and sustains a devastating loss. MĂŒntzer is arrested and sentenced to death by decapitation for his insurgency.

Abel Hradscheck, the owner of an inn in the Oderbruch country, faces financial ruin. For this state of affairs, Ursula, his wife and former actress, is by no means free of blame. Mr. Szulski arrives and the debts are settled - with money supposedly stemming from an inheritance. The next day, Szulski departs but according to the maid and the stable-boy, behaves in a very strange manner. Soon afterwards, his carriage is discovered in the Oder River, but there is no trace of the drowned man. Hradscheck's neighbor starts casting suspicion on the innkeeper. The Counselor of Justice, who heads the investigations has the spot under the pear tree dug out. A dead body is exhumed...

Marcel Schlurfke is not exactly the heartthrob that friends Elke and Gitte are looking for. So they think about how to get rid of this annoying admirer. The best way is to put him in a position where he makes a fool of himself. This is what happens to the aforementioned Marcel, who suffers a total shipwreck with his "cooking skills". And after this failure, Marcel can only place himself in the care of his father Wollermann.Elke's father is a very desirable man in certain respects: in his spare time, he likes to wallpaper and transform worn-out rooms into pretty rooms. For Elke herself, however, this is a problem, because her father repeatedly takes possession of her (desired) admirers and promotes her to "honorary helper" in wallpapering matters. Only Marcel Schlurfke proves his touchingly helpless clumsiness in these assignments too.
