The Long Way Home
6.7

Inhospitable at the best of times, the snow-covered mountainscapes of Eastern Anatolia constituted a fatal frontier for many war exiles after the battle of Sarikamish in 1915, and provides a canvas laced with beauty and threat for this bone-chilling survival yarn, the superb debut feature of Alphan Eşeli. Starting out with three characters – a refugee mother and daughter and their grizzled guide – the film traces their daunting trek across this barren terrain to safety, with the Russians encroaching and other stragglers, including a pair of wounded, frostbitten Ottoman soldiers, all orbiting the same burnt-out village they find in their path. Puncturing its aura of ghostly impasse with some shocking narrative reversals, and constantly prickling with the mutual dread of strangers in gruelling extremes, the movie stakes out hugely credible ground next to established Eastern Front war classics (In the Fog, Come and See) while remaining thoroughly its own beast. Turkish chat

A short film with the developed idea of "chat is not made only through the internet the 'Turkish Chat' never..." and by the humorist act of narrating the mixture of the graffiti and recent chat culture. The whole movie is prepared in English with the idea of international film festivals. When a young man goes out of the underground, he wants to go to "the water closet" but all "the water closets" and urinals are busy. After a few minutes, a man goes out of "the water closet". A young man gets into that water closet. After he enters that water closet, he replies to one of the messages written there, and all his world changes from that moment. Afterwards, he has only one aim to look at his place in the water closet. It's a duty like looking at his e-mails. Also, even "the special songs" that he listens to in the underground don't help him to give up on this strange game. But an inevitable end is waiting for him in this game. Every beauty has an end.
