Jimmy Barnes

A once-in-a-generation musical event back to the big screen, capturing an extraordinary gathering of Australian and International stars at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena to honour the voice, the songs and the enduring legacy of John Farnham.

The Australian music company and home to Kylie Minogue, Jimmy Barnes, Paul Kelly, Hunters and Collectors, Skyhooks and many more, celebrate its 50th anniversary with an all-star mega concert.

After finding fame with pub rock legends Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes became an Australian icon through the success of his solo career. Having escaped his hard-knocks upbringing, married the love of his life and released a string of number-one albums, the man known across the country simply as 'Barnesy' had seemingly made it. But financial issues, heavy drug use, gruelling tours, a failure to crack the US and the spectre of childhood trauma all still weighed upon him, eventually finding their release in words – as this intimate new account reveals.

With nine #1 albums to his name, Jimmy Barnes is one of Australia’s greatest rock icons. But his success masked a life of hardship and abuse, where the music that once saved him from oblivion almost came back to destroy him. Before Jimmy Barnes was Jimmy Barnes, he was James Dixon Swan, a troubled kid from the mean streets of Glasgow – and the even meaner streets of North Adelaide – trying to survive against a backdrop of addiction, alcoholism, poverty and abuse. For Jimmy, escape was the only option and he found it with a band called Cold Chisel. But the rock’n’roll lifestyle has its own temptations and the scars of childhood are always waiting to take you home. Based on the bestselling memoir and directed by veteran Australian filmmaker Mark Joffe, Working Class Boy is both an inspiring story of rock and redemption told in Barnes’ own words and an unflinchingly honest reflection on fame, creativity and depression.

50 Years of Hits. One unforgettable story. Cold Chisel: The Big Five-O Live celebrates five decades of anthems that defined Australian music, from Khe Sanh to Standing On The Outside and Flame Trees. Recorded at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in November 2024 during their massive 50th anniversary tour, this film captures Cold Chisel in peak form - raw, loud, emotional, and still unmatched on stage. High-voltage performances, amplified by a crowd singing every word. Following its broadcast premiere on Channel 7, the double-disc DVD brings the full Cold Chisel concert experience home – with 10 additional songs and over an hour of additional interviews.

2012 was an epic year for the return of Australian stalwarts Cold Chisel, playing a massive sold out tour and releasing their first studio album, No Plans, in 14 years. There is no better way to commemorate and preserve this period of time by releasing The Live Tapes Vol. 1: Live At The Hordern Pavilion. Hard to believe it’s the first live release since Ringside 10 years ago. Two CDs and a DVD (or BluRay) makes for an awesome package with all the hits such as Flame Trees, Khe Sanh, Cheap Wine and Choir Girl, plus a taster of newer material also.

Over the years a series of remarkable shows have been played out at a small renovated chapel in the heart of Melbourne’s shopping precinct. Live at the Chapel captures that special-venue energy — where every thrashed chord, broken string, splash of sweat and murmured aside is visible and audible. The DVD features a dynamic lineup of international and Australian artists delivering live performances in front of an intimate crowd, bringing the raw excitement of live rock and pop to home-viewing.
