Berlin's theatre crowd is excited about the new operetta "Frau Luna". But for the head of the city's vice police, who was invited to the dress rehearsal, the costumes for the ladies onstage are a bit too revealing. He demands the show be cancelled as offensive. The president of the Thusneldenbund has taken it upon himself to alert everyone about the growth of immorality in the capital. The theatre director Knopp has come up with an idea to convince these "fine" gentlemen to let the operetta go onstage again: He intends to win over the friendship of the moral police and then nothing will stand in the way of "Frau Luna" once more being performed.

Young Prince Nechljudov is summoned as a judge in a murder trial. A rich merchant was found dead in the room of the inn where he was staying and the prostitute Maslova was accused of the crime. Convinced that he is responsible for her moral fall, he follows her to Siberia where she must serve her sentence.

When Hermann eventually learns that Rosemarie has gotten engaged to Hermann's hunting buddy, Prince Niko, he realizes he wants to ask his wife for a divorce and chase after his former lover. Luckily(?), Rosemarie puts the brakes on the whole thing saying it's too late for them.

Brandenburg an der Havel, 2nd half of the 19th Century: the barber Fritz Bollmann is running his old-fashion barbershop and is well known, while another barber Jean Blank is more modern and haute-couture, who sees him as a huge competitor. When Bollmann wanted to leave to store to go fishing, what he loves, a boy asked for a haircut, but due to his anger he cuts him almost all of his hair. This leads the kids to play a trick upon him and when they through things in the lake in order for Bollmann to fall into the water while fishing, they write a mocking song about him. The song is spread all over the town, much to the hate of Bollmann himself. But he doesn't give up and is off to fight back.
During the Napoleonic occupation of the German states in 1812, a tailor by the name of Anton Wibbel is sentenced to sit in jail for insulting the Emperor. The tailor manages to get out of this by paying off a friend to go to prison in his place. But then, the "phony" prisoner suddenly dies in his cell and everyone now thinks Wibbel is dead.
The composer Hans Helmer can really count his happy blessings: he is married to a wonderful woman, who also happens to be a celebrated operetta star. But Hans is suffering from the success of his wife and is constantly in her shadow. So he decides to submit his latest composition under the name of his best friend, the painter Willi Kenter. The director is thrilled with the work, but there are some unforseen complications. Hans' wife Maria hears about the operetta and is likewise very impressed; but also sees through her husband's little deception. She tells him that she is determined to play a part in the performance of the work. That's something Hans wants to prevent at any price.
Bus driver Jonny wants to marry Grete, but she is jealous, and when he wrecks his bus, gets robbed by burglars and is implicated in an insurance fraud he decides to leave town and sign up on a ship as a sailor.

Musician Eduard Boeckel wants to settle down and marries laundry owner Lisbeth Timm. He brings his friend August Garfs into the marriage, and the housekeeper Alwine quickly sets her sights on him. In his new position, Boeckel invents a laundry detergent with unfortunately disastrous consequences: the laundry becomes brittle, and the first major marital spat ensues. Eduard flees to his fellow musicians, gets drunk, and seeks solace with Alwine. When she drives him away, he returns contritely to his wife, who forgives him. And now she also knows what is truly wrong with their marriage: her Eduard misses his profession. From now on, he makes music, and she does the laundry.
When Dr. Müller is delayed and postpones his own wedding his furious bride Inge leaves him and goes to see her aunt, picking up smart Fred on the way who poses as her husband since Inge is too embarrassed to talk about her busted nuptials.
