Sister Roma

A feature documentary that explores the legacy of the San Francisco chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a global, secular order of queer and trans "nuns" who combat guilt, shame, and exclusion through joy, humor, activism, and irreverence, serving their communities while challenging bigotry and redefining spirituality.

Champagne is one of San Francisco’s most notorious dancers. When she’s framed for her recent hubby’s death, she must outwit sinister businesswomen, incompetent detectives and sadistic prison guards. Starring a host of famous San Fran faces, Lady Champagne is the perfect queer counterpart to comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun.

With the appearance of bearded men in nuns' costumes, collecting money for the needy members of the gay community, the Sistory of the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" started in San Francisco at Easter 1979. Since than, the Sisters have developed a wide network of "Houses" and "Orders" in numerous countries. They support gay, lesbian and transgender organizations as well as Aids projects.

After an unlikely casting onto a reality television show, 47-year old suburban telemarketer Ed Popil leaves his job to pursue a full-time entertainment industry career as his drag queen alter ego, 1960’s era housewife Mrs. Kasha Davis.

Monika Treut explores the worlds and thoughts of several female to male transgendered individuals. As with Treuts first film, Jungfrauenmaschine, Gendernauts, enters a minority sector of San Fransisco culture. The characters in this film have a lot to complain about, and they do. They are people whose physical appearance (female) does not match their inner sexual identity (male). The subject is pinpointed in the film independant of sexual orientation. Leave your conservative hats at the door, this is going to need your special attention.
