Fräulein Else
1.0

Else is the pretty daughter of a Viennese lawyer. The young lady has been invited by her aunt to spend a few days on a summer holiday in San Martino. There she receives an express letter from her mother requesting her to ask the wealthy art dealer Dorsday for a much-needed loan. Her father is facing bankruptcy due to embezzlement. Else approaches Dorsday and describes the difficult family situation. Dorsday is willing to lend the necessary money, but stipulates that Else must expose herself to him naked for a quarter of an hour. Else reacts indignantly to this request, but over the course of the evening realizes the dilemma she faces. Caught between unconditional loyalty to her father and a strong longing for autonomy and self-determined femininity, she cannot commit to either alternative.

Judit is up to her neck in art studies and the elitist art community but chucks it all to pursue a successful career as a billiard professional -- not exactly a likely alternative in real life, but certainly more lucrative. Just as she is finally at the apex of her chosen second field, Judit encounters male jealously and/or aggression in the form of intentional snubs from this different class of snobs, or in the worse instances, rape. Director Kitty Kino portrays many of the male figures in this film as weak, or drunk, or simply offensive, and because of the emphasis on those traits, the film will raise objections from some viewers. On the other hand, many women might see this film and feel that at least it brings up the difficulties women can face in getting ahead in a male-dominated arena, instead of side-stepping or ignoring the role of male prejudice.

Arne Arndahl, a Norwegian farmer and sawmill owner, lives on the remote Svytelma farm with his marriageable daughters Astrid and Christine and his housekeeper Karen. When he is out hunting, his farmhand tries to rape Astrid. He is chased off the farm by the women. When Arne learns what has happened, he is driven to the Faalsund inn, trembling with rage, where he almost kills Erik, the farmhand. A stranger, who appears as suddenly as he disappears, stops him by force. At night, wolves break into the Arndahls' stables and snatch a calf. The next morning, Arne sets off to hunt down the gray predators. On the way, he is surprised by a snowstorm. And suddenly they are there: the wolves! Arne slips and loses his weapon. At first he manages to fend off the wolves with a wooden club, but then one of the beasts knocks him to the ground and the others are all over him...
