"England 79" - 17 scenes from Great Britain the winter of discontent, 1979.
A fictional letter from a daughter, Olivia, to her mother in Dominica is the narrative thread connecting interviews from (predominantly) black and Asian cultural critics, historians and journalists. The choice of occupation for the daughter, a researcher, perhaps strains the narrative conceit too far. Nevertheless, for an avowedly political documentary the result is absorbing.
Documentary tracing the history of the Two Tone record label which emerged in the late 1970s, the bands linked to it and their musical influences, and its place at the fore of promoting multi-cultural music and concepts and the Ska music revival.
A two part documentary that details the contribution of black and Asian people to television history from the birth of television in 1936 to 1992. Interviewees include: Pearl Connor, Thomas Baptiste, Lenny Henry, Norman Beaton, Horace Ové, Carmen Munroe, and Stuart Hall.
