Border guard officer Anton Pekarsky, after serving for ten years on the border in Central Asia, decides to return to his native Belarus. He is repelled by the attitudes that began to prevail at his former place of service after the collapse of the Soviet Union — corruption and complicity with illegal border violators. Therefore, at first, he turns down an offer to head one of the border outposts on the Belarusian‑Lithuanian border. However, when he arrives at his native border town with his daughter, Anton Pekarsky realizes that his integrity and experience in border affairs are very much needed there...

The film takes place during the first post-war summer in Western Belarus. The war has ended, but peace has yet to return to the region. Denis Meshko, a Suvorov Military School cadet, arrives for vacation in a village where the first Chairman, Uncle Denis, has just been murdered. The villagers suspect local resident Mechislav Khabenok. The cadet decides to avenge the death of his loved one.

The dancer Nastya Beletskaya, Kachura’s school friend, whom he had a crush on, returns to her native Zarechye. The lieutenant can hardly recognize the temperamental and strong Nastya he remembered in the subdued and silent girl. At the same time, several criminal events unfold in Zarechye: illegal immigrants, the murder of a shop owner, and the arson of the house of the widow of an influential businessman. During the investigation of the crimes that have shaken Zarechye, Kachura’s work and personal experiences turn out to be intertwined: Nastya Beletskaya becomes one of the suspects in the criminal case, and her criminal past is also revealed. Nastya does not admit her guilt and conducts her own investigation, just like Lieutenant Kachura, who himself turns out to be a suspect. Meanwhile, the investigation brings all the initiated criminal cases together…

Left without parents, having gone through hardships and hardships, Kasym ends up in a boarding school, where he learns true friendship and becomes a marksman. Growing up, he falls in love, goes through exploits and betrayal during the Great Patriotic War. A "thread" from the past helps him to keep a person in himself, which connects him with the roots of the family and the values of his ancestors.

Russia in 2000. The end of the post-Soviet era. The province of Ivanovo. The Mironovich family keeps a wake: their youngest son Andrej died in the war. His older brother Anton meets Andrej's last wish: He drives his motorcycle through the city at sunrise. Meanwhile, in love with Anton Vika is raped after the disco. Her mother commits a senseless murder at home. There are no guilty parties.

West Belarus, October 1944. The German command is trying to prevent Soviet troops from entering East Prussia. In order to exclude the leakage of information about their plans, the Nazis use a new code, which is to be solved by Soviet radio operators. This is the task that Major-General Zharov and his subordinates receive. To protect the scouts ordered to a group of Captain Belov, which has already once saved the general from the attack of the German landing force.
