From the streets of Harajuku comes a heartwarming movie featuring the popular HARAJUKU KAWAii! models of the aomoji-kei scene! Fumiko is signed to a modeling agency in Harajuku, but she has begun to feel uncertain about her future as a model. Encouraged by her manager to pursue acting, she starts attending an acting workshop. There, the instructor bluntly tells her, “Anyone who has no interest in people can’t become an actor.” By chance, Fumiko ends up taking a part-time job at a handyman service. One of her assignments involves a business specializing in helping former couples get back together. As she coordinates all kinds of reconciliations, she gradually begins to enjoy this unusual job of dealing with people and their relationships. Fumiko has always had a habit of giving up on things halfway through, but observing the many different ways people live their lives begins to influence her own way of thinking. Alley Cat
6.0

A depressed ex-boxer (Yosuke Kubozuka) self-medicating for the injuries that ended his career finds a stray cat that brightens his day, but she is snatched up by a comical grungy mechanic (Kenji Furuya). Calling each other by the competing names they gave the cat, Maru and Lily, the odd pair is abruptly sucked into a political conspiracy with Saeko (Yui Ichikawa) and her son at the center. Witnessing another injustice in which the economic and social elite prey on the vulnerable, the two strays set off on the road to redemption, or at least peaceful cat ownership. (Fun fact: in addition to acting together in Alley Cat, Yosuke Kubozuka and Kenji “KJ” Furuya released the single “Soul Ship” in 2017. Kubozuka performs as Manji Line and Furuya in the band Dragon Ash.) -JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film

Pipparan!!

25 years ago, the Nagiri Brothers—once feared nationwide—lost their family’s backbone when their father, Tsuyoshi Nagiri (played by Kim Sunjin), was suddenly assassinated. “Even as yakuza, we never strayed from the path of humanity. Everyone in the Nagiri family is our comrade,” were the words their father left behind. Carrying on his will, the second son, Kaname Nagiri (Choi Chul-ho), took over the Nagiri-gumi. However, just as the ex-Nagiri member-turned-politician Masashi Fukuzawa (Koichi Miura) is preparing for an election, and Danba Takeshi (Daisuke Nagakura), head of the Tanba-gumi under the same Doushinkai syndicate, is released from prison, a violent incident breaks out—triggered by the drug trade. When their youngest brother Minato (Seiji Fukushi), a respected figure in Osaka, falls into danger, the eldest, Shun Nagiri (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi), steps in to save him. The brothers reunite and head to Kaname’s side—just as he’s about to clash with their former allies…

Konkatsu Battle Royal
7.0

In 2015, the Japanese economy has collapsed due to global recession. While unemployment rates are over 35 percent, 150,000 people commit suicide every year.
