It was the largest mass shooting of the Second World War, and yet few people are aware of the Babyn Yar massacre. In September 1941, Germans shot 33,771 Jews on the edge of a ravine in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The history of Germany's oldest independent family-owned film studio, now run by Brauner's daughter, Dr. Alice Brauner. Klaus Kinski is one of the few German actors who has achieved international fame. He made headlines. And disappeared behind them. Kinski lived his parts 24/7. This film tells the story of a man who no longer could understand the difference or distinguish between fantasy and reality.

In 1987, colour slides were found in a second hand book store in Vienna which turned out to be a collections of photographs taken in the Lodz ghetto by the Nazis' chief accountant. Walter Genewein boosted productivity in the ghetto while keeping costs down, a policy which led to the Lodz ghetto surviving much longer than any other in Poland. He recorded what he considered to be the subhuman aspect of the Jewish workers and he was concerned only with the technical quality of his photos. Director Dariusz Jabłoński's prize-winning film uses the photographs in a different way. He recreates for us the suffering of inmates, giving a compassionate picture of that it was like to be trapped in the ghetto. (Storyville)

Berlin's Danny Bach, single and lead singer of a garage band, actually has something better to do than take care of his orphaned 14-year-old cousin from Kazakhstan. But the smart, charming Ekaterina will soon be part of the family. And it hits Danny hard when he learns that the girl is terminally ill. This funny and soulful Christmas film is a sensitive plea for “One World”: the possibility of understanding beyond national and cultural differences.
