Shizuka decides to confront Onishu-gumi, joined by Naruto, Inokubi, and loyal members. Former Onishu members Namakura, Hijikata, and Gomada switch sides to Shinsen-gumi, strengthening their forces. The Shinsen-gumi–Onishu conflict escalates, causing defections. Naruto and Inokubi vow to prove Shizuka’s innocence, leaving Namakura and Hijikata in charge. They investigate while Shizuka hides with his boss. At the hospital, a scuffle implicates Shinsen-gumi, causing arrests and deaths. Seeing the situation and loyal members’ faith, Shizuka resolves to confront Onishu-gumi himself.
The Kishu clan loses its leader Sakamoto (Terajima Susumu) in a conflict with the rival Shinshu Clan, and a battle for succession breaks out. Meanwhile, Shizuya (Ito Kentaro), the head of the Shinshu Clan, puts the safety of his beloved Akino (Kakei Miwako) first and makes a proposal to the Kishu clan to avoid further conflict, but the situation deteriorates further.

Zenjiro has taken Edo by storm as Keisai Eisen, the master of ukiyo-e portraying beautiful women. He visits regularly because he admires Hokusai and secretly likes Oei although their relationship is like childhood friends. Oei respects her father whose paintings fascinated her and continues to work as a painter who supports him behind the scenes. When Hokusai’s masterpiece Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji was completed, she was also by his side.

Yone actually believes in psychic abilities. By an audience request a new plan is set out for the program, a plan which requires the show to uncover real psychics or psychic events.
