Kabayan is influenced by a friend to go to the city. In the city, a girl, Saribanon, whose father has been helped by Kabayan when he is robbed, secretly falls in love with him. But he already has Iteung, his girlfriend in the village. The story of that relationship, combined with his adventure in the city, finally ends with Iteung and Kabayan’s marriage.

The film tells a story about the problems that come from playing “judi buntut” (a type of lottery gambling). People start to think and act irrationally. In the end the police comes to set things straight.

Kabayan undergoes a long journey to get his soul mate, Nyi Iteung, since Abah, the latter’s father, does not agree to have a son-in-law from the village. Koswara’s brothers and sisters-in-law trade his wife, Aisah, to Kardiman, until his wife goes insane and dies. Agus Herman, son of Kardiman, is as brutal as his father and Mrs. Kardiman, also has an impure background. Her daughter, Nana, who is born without knowledge of her biological father, is almost raped by her stepfather, Kardiman. It is also suggested that Mrs. Kardiman desires Koswara. An experiment from Indonesian directing legend, Teguh Karya, that was not entirely successful.

Ricky (Ryan Hidayat) is so disturbed by the death of his girlfriend, Sita (Nike Ardilla), in a parachuting accident that he acts out anti-socially; all he does is drive around in his old, open-top jeep, hanging out with his gang and getting into fights. Like the film’s title, Parody of the Capital resembles a sketch of the community. Oom Pasikom, a cab driver, is stingy because of his measly income. Conversely, his wife moves within the high social circle and is a spendthrift due to her business as jewelry broker. Through Oom Pasikom’s glasses, small stories of the city are told - the ladies’ social gathering, lonely wives, the cleaning of the city and how it affects the small businesses, a student who is writing her thesis and so on.

The letter tells her life story, about her husband, Yono, who had many wives and liked to sleep around. This prompted Rahayu to get a divorce and start an affair with her former lover, Jufri. But Yono is angry when he finds out about the affair. He fights with Jufri, but ends up being killed by Jufri. In panic, Jufri runs out of the house and is killed by an oncoming truck. Then Rahayu goes to her aunt’s house claiming that Yono has remarried. Frans, the maid begins to blackmail Rahayu but Rahayu later poisons her. All of this happens when Lestari was five years old.

Meanwhile, a taxi passenger hears Budi singing to himself and offers musical instruments that he just bought. Budi forms a dangdut (traditional Indonesian music) group with his friends and calls it Soneta, which quickly gains success.

Ahmad and Nuri work in the same bank in Jakarta. Ahmad loves Nuri, but Nuri has set her heart on Yanto from Bandung. Unfortunately, Yanto is attracted to Lila, while Lila is interested in Darso, the brother of Nuri. This five-sided love story becomes more colourful when Lila’s father’s cheque disappears. Then the bank sends Ahmad to investigate the case.

Utoyo), who is still a bachelor. A similar misunderstanding arises between Firman (Wawan Wanisar) and his wife, Ida (Ully Artha). The presence of sexy Neighborhood Unit secretary, Evita (Yurike Prastica), heats up the situation even more. The confusion is finally cleared up by Ohim (Salim Bungsu), a servant. In the end, the Neighborhood Head ends up married to the woman of his dreams.

Rhoma’s father, Subrata, a businessman living in Bandung, expects his son to be an Economics graduate. Rhoma instead pursues his love of music, which is considered lowly by his father. This often causes conflict between them and Rhoma is finally thrown out of the house. So Rhoma travels to Jakarta and calls himself Budi. He lives with a group of street musicians and when one of his friends is seriously ill and needs money for medical treatment, his father rejects his call for help. So he grabs the bag of Ani, who is looking after his father’s paperwork. Budi pays for his friend’s treatment and returns the important papers to Ani. Budi’s friend dies, but Ani and her parents sympathise with him. Budi is hired as a personal driver for Ani. Love grows between them. Meanwhile, Subrata follows his wife’s suggestion to match Ani to Rhoma, with the hope that Rhoma’s attitude will change after marriage.
