The evolution of adult cinema through the most influential films in history, a journey that begins in the 1970s and ends nowadays. An in-depth analysis of the success of the most prestigious erotic films, their impact on industry and society, and their influence on cinema and contemporary culture.

In 1972, a seemingly typical shoestring budget pornographic film was made in a Florida hotel: "Deep Throat," starring Linda Lovelace. This film would surpass the wildest expectation of everyone involved to become one of the most successful independent films of all time. It caught the public imagination which met the spirit of the times, even as the self-appointed guardians of public morality struggled to suppress it, and created, for a brief moment, a possible future where sexuality in film had a bold artistic potential. This film covers the story of the making of this controversial film, its stunning success, its hysterical opposition along with its dark side of mob influence and allegations of the on set mistreatment of the film's star.

You'll be shocked, amazed, and maybe just a little bit creeped out by the things you can find in your newspaper's classified ads in this vintage sexploitation "mockumentary" from Joel M. Reed. Georgina Spelvin serves as host and guide to this exploration of the sexual netherworld, which can be accessed through discreet ads placed in "underground" newspapers and on public bulletin boards. We meet voyeurs looking for good peeping spots, homosexuals on the cruise for new partners, masked swingers clubs, nudie photographers trolling for naïve new models, a man who makes a good living providing S & M enthusiasts with leather gear, adult film societies screening stag movies for heavy-breathing fans, and "Lonely Hearts Clubs" preying on unsuspecting bachelors looking for relationships with teenage girls. Director Joel M. Reed (who would later make the bizarre horror-comedy Bloodsucking Freaks) and actress Jennifer Welles (a major star in 1970s adult films) can be spotted in cameo roles.

It's difficult to remember what porn was like in the 70s. In this era when pornstars are on TV, date movie stars, and are on album covers, the secret world of men in raincoats attending sleazy theaters is hard to imagine. Now most people see porn on their TV or internet. Once upon a time, though, it was a big deal for a porn star to hit the mainstream, and John Holmes did just that. With a 14 inch endowment and not so good looks, Holmes made thousands of movies and slept with thousands of women. He became well-known for his Johnny Wadd series, where he was an international man of mystery, and hardcore sex. Eventually he got heavily into drugs, got involved in a brutal murder, and finally died of AIDS.

Dorothy LeMay was a very hot little strumpet in her day, with a gorgeous mane of red hair, a tight little body & big wide innocent eyes. She made her debut in hardcore in the late 70's and, in the beginning, she was mostly cast in supporting roles. Judging by her early appearances, it would have seemed to be a safe bet to claim she would never attain top tier status in the world of hardcore. But that all changed when Taboo & Taboo 2 were released. These performances pushed her over the top and, from that moment on, she was often cast in lead parts which helped her to attain that top status among porn starlets.
